Keywords are a specific word or phrase that describes the contents of a Web page.

How to choose keywords?

1. Know your audience.

Identify your target audience and put yourself into the place of a customer when you create your initial list.

This may be the most important part of keyword research.

Understanding the subjects that are important to customers is the first step to narrowing down the keywords that are most likely to draw them to your site.

2. Use research tools.

Use Google AdWords Keyword Tool to research your potential target keywords. With these tools, you can gather trends and data on keyword volume, keyword competition, similar keywords, and more.

For example:

Names (Names of scientists, people, etc. involved in the story)

Locations (Town, city, country, etc.)

Years or dates (1978, 12th Oct 1982, etc.)

Figures (1.2 million, 20000, etc.)

You may mark any word or phrase which is capitalized e.g. titles of books, event names, etc.

3. Use different variations.

There are lots of keyword research tools out there designed to help marketers select effective keywords, and many of them are 100% free. For example,” Ubersuggest” is a good keyword suggestion tool and an excellent asset for any SEO content strategy. Marketers can just type in a generic keyword (“sales training”), and the tool will return a vast list of potential phrase variations to consider (“sales training tips”, “sales training certifications”, etc.).

Using relevant phrase variations will help marketers expand their keyword portfolios.

4. Study the competition.

Create a list of your main competitors and go to their websites to see what keywords they are targeting. View their metatags and read their content marketing to help identify the keywords they are targeting. Looking at your competitor’s keywords will not only help you see what you could be forgetting but also help widen your list of ideas.

5. Let keywords indicate the content.

Once a keyword list has been built, marketers can review it to identify opportunities for fresh content ideas. With this path, everything that is created will have a target phrase from the beginning, removing the need to scramble for keywords later on.

6. Analyze the results.

After choosing your keywords don’t forget to monitor them and analyze the results. There are often trending phrases or keywords, along with new keywords your competitors may be using.

Don’t  Spam!

Find out which are the most searched words in your niche, then include them in your blog as much as possible, but don’t do it arbitrarily. That way you can always refer to this again.
